Moving Beyond Human Scale with Governance Automation Using DivvyCloud [live demo] by Chris DeRamus (CTO, DivvyCloud) - optional

Chris DeRamus discusses how cloud computing and software defined infrastructure has produced a paradigm shift in infrastructure management. The volume and rate of change has become exponentially larger and faster, with multiple changes often occurring every minute and even every second. This shift moves management of cloud infrastructure beyond the human scale. He will demonstrate how DivvyCloud has solved this problem through automated governance of security, compliance and cost control for cloud infrastructure. He will also provide examples of how DivvyCloud customers use the platform as the basis to re-architect strategies to accommodate the fast pace of operating in the hybrid, multi-cloud world.

Noon – 12:45 pm

Lunch and Conversation with Peers

Attendees will be served a catered lunch and converse with other guests and speakers. This is a great opportunity to build new relationships, discuss the disruptive change created by cloud computing, and leverage collective wisdom on how to build strategies that accelerate cloud adoption maturity at your own organization.

12:45 pm – 1:00 pm

Welcome and Opening Remarks by John Honeycutt (CTO, Discovery Communications)

John Honeycutt welcomes attendees and will share his views on how the growth of cloud computing technologies, the pace of cloud adoption, and the transition to a multi-cloud world has created challenges for many organizations as they struggle to prioritize both innovation and governance (security, compliance and cost control).

1:00 pm – 1:45 pm

Economics of Enterprise Cloud by Thomas Martin (Former CIO, General Electric)

The advent of cloud computing and the increased demands to accelerate corporate innovation have disrupted the traditional assumptions of IT—stable workloads and predictable growth. Thomas Martin, Former CIO of General Electric, discusses how business drivers like increased business process demands and the acceleration of digital as the primary method of customer interaction have dislocated established IT economics and present IT organization with new challenges. He shares the strategies and tactics he used at GE, e.g., a well implemented tagging strategy, to create successful outcomes while running at scale in the public cloud.

1:45 pm – 2:00 pm

Break and Conversation

Break in the sessions for discussion between attendees.

2:00 pm – 2:45 pm

Security and Compliance of Cloud by Christopher Porter (CISO, Fannie Mae)

Running in the public cloud requires creating a strategy to go big and go fast while maintaining governance and control in a shared risk and responsibility environment like AWS, Azure or GCP. Leakage of sensitive data is a fear for any company who stores data in the public cloud, especially when it seems like there are near daily news stories about breaches. Christopher Porter addresses these concerns as he discusses lessons learned and best practices developed during his work on data breach research with Verizon’s Data Breach Report series and in creating the VERIS Framework.

2:45 pm – 3:15 pm

Coffee and Conversation

Attendees will be served coffee and converse with other guests and speakers. This is a great opportunity to build new relationships, discuss the disruptive change created by cloud computing, and leverage collective wisdom on how to build strategies that accelerate cloud adoption maturity at your own organization.

3:15 pm – 4:00 pm

Business Impact of Cloud Adoption by Dave Duvall (SVP Infrastructure, Discovery Communications)

The big opportunity is to transition Discovery Communications’ global supply chain and business systems to a scalable infrastructure to improve speed to market, increase quality of services, and reduce cost. Dave Duvall explores why Discovery has embraced the cloud, and why now? Drivers included the need for scale and agility, robust security capabilities, mobility and connectivity, and open platforms and interoperability. He will also share lessons learned, and best practices developed, during Discovery’s “Project On Ramp” initiative that moved their media supply chain to the cloud

4:00 pm – 4:45 pm

Enabling Developer Community by Don Browning (VP Architecture, Turner Broadcasting System)

Developers want to build great products, and to do so they want access to the latest, best-of-breed technologies and services available from every and any cloud technology provider. Access to this set of hybrid, multi-cloud services creates an opportunity to innovate at speeds that would have previously been impossible. Don Browning dives into how to deliver on the promise of self-service, dynamic, and scalable infrastructure for developers while upholding the IT organization’s mandate for security and compliance governance. He’ll provide real-world lessons on how you can go fast, but be safe at the same time.
